Philosophical Interests

As noted on the about page, I’m trying to cultivate a community of people interested in philosophy, progressive politics and skill sharing (among other things) on a Discord server named Cult of Praxis. These are the contents of a survey that my co-high-priestess and friend made to figure out what those interests are; specifically regarding the philosophy part of it. Click here to fill out the form. Below the questions are the results of the responses so far.

Join the Cult of Praxis. A collaborative space for learning philosophy, progressive politics and skill sharing. The following questions are to survey your personal interests regarding subjects in philosophy; specifically, ones we’re more in touch with. Considering the overarching nature of philosophy, some of the subjects below are not sufficiently described and they often intersect with each other.

I have tried to change the descriptions to better reflect what each subject entails, but again it’s undoable without always leaving something out. So I went back to the original way we described them and I think it’s good enough.

Different Subtopics of Philosophy

  • Philosophy of Language The nature of meaning, the function of language in society and communication, and the relations of language to the mind and reality.
  • Psychoanalysis & Metaphysics of Mind The nature of the mind, and interactions between the conscious, subconscious and unconscious mind.
  • Socialism, Critical Theory and Political Philosophy Class, the state, freedom, violence and social power dynamics.
  • Natural, Environmental & Animal Philosophy & Ethics From the elements that conduct motion to the moral considerations we owe other creatures.
  • Existentialism & Phenomenology Confronting the absurdity of living as radically free humans in an uninterested universe, and a method of philosophy that centers on the nature of being and direct experience.
  • Sonic & Music Philosophy Inquiries into how we think with sound, what music is and how we relate to it.
  • Normative Ethics The study of ethical behaviour and how one ought to act morally. What is right, and why is it right?
